"GALLOPALOOZA"

THE STORY BEHIND GALLOPALOOZA

Gallopalooza is a community wide equine art project that offers an exciting look at interpretations of Derby winners and other horses of note, including Pegasus.

Take one horse-haired vision of two community leaders, 223 life-sized fiberglass horses and a slew of local and national artists, mix it with months of anticipation and you’ll unleash Gallopalooza, Louisville’s sidewalk Derby.

Credit a pair of CEOs – John Conti of John Conti Coffee Co. and Hank Wagner of Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services – who were bowled over by the Windy City bovines of Chicago’s Cows on Parade art exhibit. Conti and Wagner headed up the endeavor to bring the same kind of smile-inducing event to their hometown.

Proceeds from Gallopalooza sponsorships and the end-of-summer auction of the horses, (with a potential to net $1 million) were split between "Brightside" – a city agency that promotes civic pride and city beautification –  and the buyer’s charity of choice.

As far as I know all of the Horses are still in Louisville and
following are the ones I have photographed.

I'll let you know if I add to it in the future.

GALLOPALOOZA HORSES IN MOVIE!!
~~~
Two Gallopalooza horses made it into the movies.  They were  included in the motion picture Elizabethtown featuring Kirsten Dunst, Orlando Bloom and Susan Sarandon.  Cameron Crowe directed the movie about a man who must return to Elizabethtown, Kentucky upon the death of his father to fulfill his dying wishes.  On the way home from Oregon, he falls in love with a flight attendant, who helps him get his life back on track.
